Penny-farthings

Fun Fact of the Day – Penny-farthings, the Victorian era bicycles with the big wheel in the front, got their name from the UK penny and smaller farthing coins of the day.

Because the bikes had no gears the oversized wheel allowed one rotation of the pedals to move the bicycle faster.

Bonus Fact – One farthing was 1/4th the value of a penny.
