All technically cougars or the scientific name Puma concolor, the various monikers exist because people across the Americas gave the cats different names.
The cougar even holds the Guinness World Record for the animal with the greatest number of names, with over 40 in English alone.
Bonus fact – Cougars are closer in lineage to house cats than to lions and are the largest of the small cat species.
